How to get the best Headshot

So logically, you want to look your best after all you are going to invest money to get the best possible result, right.

It’s easy to assume you should look like a million dollars when going for your shoot, but maybe not? By that I mean a simple attire maybe a suit or dress that represents workplace and professionalism. That’s not to say casually dressed would work just as well.

If you browse through lets say “Google Images” of Headshots, pick out the ones you find most appealing and you will most likely find that they are dressed relatively minimalist. You can also ask yourself why you liked a certain image what it was that drew your attention. You can then get a better idea of how you want your photos to look.

Some other aspects to consider, what line of work are you in or looking to move in to. What is the expected attire or image is common for this industry or area. That said, you can of course dress whichever way you feel most comfortable.

Remember people make an assumption in the first few seconds of seeing someone whether they like or dislike them subconsciously. I don’t want to go into subconscious bias in this blog just yet. So it is important to portray the image of your best self in a way that is uncomplicated and approachable.

Go easy on the makeup, try to get a good night’s sleep before your shoot and try to be relaxed and open minded as to the results of your shoot. If you have a good photographer they will work with you to find the result you are most happy with.

Be relaxed, be confident and don’t overthink it.
